our health standards

Both the mother and father of each litter are:

  • AKC Registered OFA Certified (hips, elbows, heart, and eyes)

  • DNA tested for genetic conditions. Responsible breeding begins long before puppies arrive.

early development + socialization

From their earliest days, our puppies are gently introduced to:

  • A variety of surfaces (grass, stone, indoor flooring)

  • Everyday household sounds

  • Human handling of paws, ears, and mouth

  • Age-appropriate social experiences

  • Foundational exercises to discourage resource guarding

These early experiences help shape confident, adaptable companions.

PennHIP Testing

In addition to OFA evaluations, we also complete PennHIP testing on our breeding dogs. PennHIP is a specialized hip assessment. It’s simply another way we go the extra mile to ensure we are breeding sound, healthy Goldens for our families.

the investment

If you are approved to welcome one of our puppies into your home, the investment is: $4,000

This reflects the extensive health testing, veterinary care, early development, and individual attention each puppy receives from birth through go-home day.

what's included?

Every Contango Golden puppy goes home with:

  • AKC Registration

  • Comprehensive veterinary examination

  • Age-appropriate vaccinations

  • Scheduled deworming treatments

  • Microchip

  • Early socialization and handling program

  • Crate introduction

  • Potty training foundations

  • Puppy go-home bag

  • Ongoing breeder support

Our goal is to ensure your puppy transitions confidently into your home with a strong foundation already in place.

the reservation process

Step 1: Initial Inquiry & Conversation

We begin with a conversation about your home, lifestyle, and what you’re looking for in a Golden Retriever.

 Step 2: Approval & Retainer

If we mutually feel it’s a good fit, a $500 retainer is required to reserve your place.

The retainer is applied toward the total investment.

In certain cases, it may be transferred to a future litter.

 Step 3: Litter Updates

Families receive updates and photos as puppies grow.

Step 4: Picking Out Your Puppy

Picking out your puppy is typically around 6 weeks of age.

Step 5: Picking Up Your Puppy

Go-home timing is typically around 8 weeks of age.

visiting and picking out your pup

We welcome families to visit by appointment.

Choosing your puppy is an exciting moment, and we are here to guide you. Some families are drawn to a calm, observant personality, while others love a playful, outgoing temperament. Each puppy is unique, and we are happy to help you select the best fit for your family dynamic.

Bringing home a puppy comes with questions — and that is completely normal.

We remain available after go-home day for guidance, reassurance, and support. Many of our families stay in touch for years, and we treasure those relationships.
